Rotary Club representatives handing over 30 CPR training manikins to Bali Sehat clinic staff at the reception area in Amed, East Bali

At the reception of Bali Sehat Clinic in Amed, East Bali, a small crowd gathered around an open suitcase. Inside were 30 training manikins, carefully wrapped and stacked, ready to be unpacked. For the staff standing beside them, holding the manikins up for a photo, the moment marked something bigger than a simple delivery. It was the start of a new capacity for the clinic to teach one of the most important skills a community can learn: how to save a life.

The manikins, used for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BHD) training, were donated to Bali Sehat by Rotary, an international humanitarian organization known for supporting health, education, and community development projects around the world.

Why Basic Life Support Training Matters in East Bali

In rural areas like Amed and the surrounding villages of Karangasem, emergency medical help is not always minutes away. A traffic accident, a drowning near the coast, a sudden cardiac event at home. In these situations, the actions taken by the people nearby, long before an ambulance or clinic staff can arrive, often make the difference between life and death.

Yet formal CPR and first aid training remains out of reach for many people in underserved communities. Training equipment is expensive, and dedicated manikins are rarely available outside major hospitals in the cities. This is exactly the gap that Bali Sehat has been working to close, and the new donation of manikins makes that work possible on a much larger scale.

How Bali Sehat Will Use the Manikins

With 30 manikins now in hand, Bali Sehat can run hands-on CPR and basic life support sessions for far more participants at once, rather than a handful of people sharing one or two training tools. The clinic plans to use them across four main groups:

  • Clinic staff, to keep emergency response skills sharp and consistent.
  • Local schools, introducing students to basic life-saving skills early.
  • Community membersΒ in villages around Amed and Karangasem, many of whom have never had access to formal first aid training.
  • VolunteersΒ who support Bali Sehat’s outreach programs, such as Healthy Day events held in remote areas.

This training builds directly on work Bali Sehat has already been doing in the community. It complements the clinic’s earlier CPR and First Aid training events, and gives that program the tools it needs to reach more people, more often.

Part of a Larger Mission

Bali Sehat operates as a 24-hour humanitarian clinic, providing free and low-cost medical care to underserved communities across East Bali. The clinic has already reached more than 43,570 patients through its free medical checkups since 2021, and its Healthy Day outreach program has supported more than 15,396 people across 29 events in the same period. Training programs like this one are part of the same mission: reaching people before a crisis happens, not just responding after.

Donations like this one from Rotary do more than provide equipment. They extend the clinic’s ability to prepare an entire community, staff, students, parents, and volunteers alike, to respond confidently in the moments that matter most.
