On the morning of May 5, 2026. World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day a healthy baby boy took his first breath at Bali Sehat Clinic in Amed. His name is Putu Krisna, and his arrival marks not just a new beginning for his family, but a quiet testament to what community healthcare can look like when it is built on trust, dignity, and access.

His mother, Mrs. Ni Luh Andi, came to Bali Sehat after seeing a poster on the road leading to our clinic. That simple sign announcing our free maternity program was enough to bring her through our doors for prenatal ultrasounds and, eventually, for the birth of her first child.

Her first birth, and why she chose Bali Sehat

Moments after welcoming Putu Krisna into the world, Mrs. Ni Luh Andi stands proudly in the maternity room at Bali Sehat Clinic. “The process was smooth, and the staff was very friendly,” she shared with our team her first birth experience, made safe and memorable.

For many first-time mothers in rural Bali, childbirth carries both anticipation and anxiety. Mrs. Andi was no different. She arrived nervous, unsure of what to expect. But as she later told our team, the process went smoothly and it was the warmth of our staff and medical team that put her at ease.

She had already visited the clinic for ultrasound examinations during her pregnancy, building familiarity with our team long before her delivery date. That continuity of care from prenatal to postnatal is something we believe every mother deserves.

Free maternity care: what it means in practice

Bali Sehat’s free birth program exists because the cost of childbirth should never be a barrier to a safe delivery. Mrs. Andi learned about the program through community outreach the posters and banners we place along roads in the Amed area. Word of mouth, simple signage, and community trust: these are the tools that bring families to us.

During her postnatal check, our doctor reminded her about family planning options available at the clinic, including the KB (Keluarga Berencana) program, and encouraged her to wait at least two years before planning a second pregnancy guidance aligned with WHO recommendations for maternal and infant health.
