Two teams compete in a night volleyball match during PORDES Desa Culik 2026 as a crowd watches from the stands

Desa Culik kicked off Pekan Olahraga Desa, known locally as PORDES, this week, and Bali Sehat Clinic came along to be part of it. The event runs at Gelanggang Olahraga dan Seni Budaya Ida Wayan Bajra, the village’s sports and culture field, and opened with a volleyball championship that kept the stands full well past dark. The tournament banner credited support from PLN Peduli and BUMN Untuk Indonesia, both familiar names at village events across Karangasem.

Bali Sehat’s part in PORDES had nothing to do with the scoreboard. Near the venue’s entrance, the clinic put up a banner laying out what it offers: pregnancy checkups with ultrasound, normal childbirth services, and free physiotherapy for stroke and disability patients. Two staff worked from a quiet corner just behind the main wall, sorting supplies on a stool next to a row of red plastic chairs, ready in case anyone needed a check or had a question while the games went on.

By the time the volleyball match started, the field had turned into something else entirely. Floodlights lit up the dirt court, two teams in red and white traded spikes under the lights, and the bleachers were packed three rows deep with families, teenagers, and a few kids who’d clearly rather be on the court than watching it. Somewhere behind all that noise, the Bali Sehat banner kept doing its quiet work, a reminder that the clinic isn’t only there for emergencies.

That’s mostly the point of showing up to something like PORDES. A clinic that only appears when something’s wrong stays a little distant, no matter how good the care is. Standing at the edge of a volleyball match on a Tuesday night is a smaller gesture, but it says something too: Bali Sehat is part of Culik, not just a building people visit when they’re sick.
